WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Zarria Carter erupted for 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Thursday night against No. 12-ranked Lubbock Christian.
But it wasn't enough to overcome a late surge led by Lady Chap senior forward Grace Foster, who scored eight of her 18 points in the final four minutes.
Foster scored a traditional three-point play after appearing to hook her way around an MSU defender with the score tied at 48-48.
The play stemmed an 8-2 run by MSU and wrested away the momentum from the Mustangs.
Midwestern answered with a layup by
Kerbie Cash and
Calyssa Sevier buried a 3-pointer from the left corner to tie the game at 53-53.
But Lubbock Christian scored the next six points to extend its winning streak and grab a share of the Lone Star Conference title with No. 1-ranked Texas Woman's, who rallied for a 71-61 win over UT Tyler Thursday night in Denton.
Cash added 11 points and snared five rebounds for the Mustangs, who end the season with a 13-15 overall mark and finished tied for eighth with an 11-11 LSC record.
The Mustangs were eliminated from an LSC Postseason Tournament berth and did not possess the tiebreaker against UT Permian Basin.
Senior guard Audrey Robertson paced the Lady Chaps with 21 points, while fellow senior Maci Maddox chipped in 18.
