WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State wraps up the regular season with a home-and-home set against No. 17-ranked Lubbock Christian. The Chaparrals visit D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., and the Mustangs travel to the Rip Griffin Center for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Midwestern State is hitting its stride, winning 10 of its last 11 games and entering the final week of the season with a seven-game winning streak. The Mustangs are 21-5 overall with a 16-4 record in the Lone Star Conference. MSU is 12-1 at home this season.
The Mustangs would be no lower than the No. 2 seed in the LSC Postseason Tournament with a sweep of the Chaparrals this week.
Mason Gibson, who is the third-leading scorer in the LSC with 17.4 points per game, has scored double figures in 23 of his 25 appearances this season, and scored at least 20 points in 10 games. Gibson has scored a combined 72 point in the last three games and is shooting 71.4 percent from the field in that span (20-of-28), including 9-of-12 (75%) from 3-point range.
Pierre Sanders is the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs this season with 12.8 points per game, and he is shooting 52 percent from the field (127 of 244). Sanders is shooting 45.6 percent from 3-point range (36 of 79) and is an 84.6 percent free-throw shooter (44 of 52).
The fifth-year senior guard from Hutto, Texas, is second in the conference with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.86, and he is fourth in the league with four assists per game.
