STILLWATER, Okla. -- Midwestern State earned its third straight win to start the season with a 5-2 victory over Harding (Ark.) at Greenwell Tennis Center on Friday night.
No. 8-ranked
Sofia Giraldo clinched the dual match victory with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles, defeating Madison Stafford.
The Mustangs swept doubles and claimed the first point of the dual.
The 13th-ranked pairing of
Anda Ghinga and
Jessica Binzari knocked off Natalia Alvarez and Itza Rogel at No. 2 doubles, 6-1.
Sarah Mazaraki and
Sydney Williams followed suit with a 6-1 win over Ece Boylu and Stafford to clinch the double point.
Camila Garcia and
Hannah Yip teamed up to for a 6-4 victory over Karli Roux and Alexia Zarate Valdez at No. 1 doubles.
Ghinga annihilated Alvarez at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2, to double the lead for the Mustangs. The senior All-American from Romania has not dropped a set in her three singles matches this season.
Garcia blew away Boylu at No. 5 singles,6-0, 6-0 and improved to 2-1 to start the season.
Williams, who made her season debut in singles on Friday, gave Midwestern State a 5-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Itza Rogel.
Roux upended No. 6-ranked
Jessica Binzari at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, and No. 14-ranked Valdez was pushed to three sets by Yip at No. 1 singles but prevailed, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Stang Gang travels to Edmond for a dual match against Northeastern State (Okla.) on Saturday afternoon at Edmond Racquet Club. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
