Mustangs meet Harding in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Midwestern State, ranked No. 19 in the nation, plays its third consecutive dual match on the road as it faces Harding at Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday at 4 p.m.
Midwestern State opened the season with a 4-3 victory at Rockhurst, but No. 8-ranked Washburn prevailed in Topeka, Kansas, 7-0.

Filip Vacula, a freshman from Czechia, played No. 1 singles against opponents ranked in the top 10.  In his debut with the Mustangs, Vacula upended No. 10-ranked Semyon Tsyrenov of Rockhurst, 6-3, 6-1.  The following day, the freshman dropped the first set against No. 5 ranked Tim Hammes of Washburn, 7-5, and Hammes took the second set, 6-1.

Vacula was paired with Stephen Slocombe in doubles, and the duo took No 1-ranked Hammes and Matthew Earle of Washburn into a tiebreak before succumbing, 8-6. The duo enjoyed a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles on opening day at Rockhurst.
Midwestern State was 2-4 in doubles last week. Justin Van Amerongen teamed with Bruno Sanchez to earn the other doubles victory for the Stang Gang.

Sanchez was 1-1 at No. 2 singles last week, while Germano Setti also finished 1-1 at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs.

Killian Guillou crushed Creed Skinner of Rockhurst in his season opener 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles before losing a tight two-set match with Matthew Earle of Washburn at No. 4 singles.

Midwestern State is meeting Harding for the fourth time. The Mustangs' only victory in the series came at home with a 5-0 victory in 2000. The last dual match was in Allen, Texas, in February of 2020, and the Bisons pulled out a 4-3 victory.

Harding has opened its season with a 2-0 record after defeating No. 23-ranked Drury, 5-2, and sweeping its way past Southwest Baptist, 5-0.

Adrian Solarzano is 2-0 at No. 2 singles. Clan Mikkelsen is 2-0 with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Mikkelsen is also undefeated in doubles, playing alongside Florian Gayne.

The Bisons are still seeking their first win at No. 1 doubles after suffering back-to back losses to Drury and Southwest Baptist.

Midwestern State is scheduled to play a scrimmage against Collin College in Plano, Texas, on Monday at 2 p.m.
