WICHITA FALLS, TX -- Midwestern State hit six of its first eight shots from beyond the arc and was 14-of-26 from 3-point range on its way to a 75-61 win over UT Permian on Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs (18-5, 13-4) had six players score in double figures, led by Will Shepherd, who had 14 points. Pierre Sanders tacked on 12 points, four assists and two steals and Mason Gibson finished with 12 points.
Midwestern State out-rebounded UT Permian Basin 33-29 in Thursday's game, led by Reggie Hill's 10 boards.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-10 advantage, Midwestern State went on a 16-0 run with 13:13 left in the first half, culminating in a 3-pointer from Shepherd, to increase its lead to 34-10. The Mustangs held a 39-26 lead at halftime thanks to 58.3 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. Midwestern State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 39 points.
Midwestern State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 75-59 with 1:16 to go in the contest. The Falcons narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Mustangs still cruised the rest of the way for the 75-61 win.
