WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (4-3, 2-0) secured a 96-86 victory over UT Permian Basin (3-5, 0-2 ) on Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs dominated the boards with a 38-26 rebounding advantage, contributing to 44 points in the paint.
Midwestern State opened the first half with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by
Terrance Ramirez's pivotal role in the scoring. Ramirez contributed an assist to Charles McClennahan Jr.'s layup at 19:03 and followed up with a successful 3-pointer at 16:53.
Jonathan Jackson also made an impact, sinking a pair of 3-pointers, the first at 17:48 and another at 15:59. UT Permian Basin's Kainan Thomas responded with a 3-pointer at 10:30, but the Mustangs held a solid lead. The teams went into halftime with Midwestern State leading 47-37.
The Maroon & Gold maintained their lead through the second half, matching UT Permian Basin point for point, with both teams scoring 49 in the half. Kainan Thomas opened with a three-pointer for the visitors, narrowing the deficit. MSU responded effectively, with McClennahan Jr. contributing crucial points, including a three-pointer at the 6:46 mark that extended their lead to 81-71. Despite UT Permian Basin's attempts to close the gap, including a late layup by Rashad Kee, Midwestern State's consistent scoring secured a steady hold on the game, culminating in a 96-86 victory.
