Oklahoma Christian surges in second half to defeat MSU, 83-75

EDMOND, Okla. — Midwestern State (4-4, 2-1) fell to Oklahoma Christian (5-4, 1-3 ), 83-75, in a conference matchup on Saturday at Eagles' Nest. Midwestern State led 35-29 at halftime, but was unable to contain Oklahoma Christian's 54-point second-half surge.

The contest between the Mustangs and Oklahoma Christian commenced with strong defensive efforts and early turnovers. MSU capitalized on a turnover by Ma'Syn Howell at 19:41, leading to an offensive rebound and a tip-in by Jordan Reed for the opening basket. The teams exchanged leads frequently, with the Maroon & Gold pulling ahead thanks to Orlando Horton Jr.'s three-pointer at 17:42. The half saw balanced scoring in the paint, with both teams logging 20 points each. Despite Oklahoma Christian's efforts to rally, the Mustangs ended the first half leading 35-29, highlighted by Reed's defensive rebound with two seconds remaining.

Midwestern State's Davyon Butler hit a 3-pointer at the 16:41 mark, keeping the game tied at 38. Oklahoma Christian's Carson Jones responded with a layup and a free throw to put his team ahead 36-35. The Mustangs' Charles McClennahan, Jr. scored multiple times in the paint, including a layup at 3:43, narrowing the gap to 68-66. However, Okla. Christian secured the win with consistent scoring in the final minutes, including free throws by Ma'Syn Howell at 1:09. Miles Gibson hit a jumper with :32 seconds remaining to put Oklahoma Christian up by nine, 80-71.
