Both have led their teams to the LSC Tournament, making big contributions to the teams success

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State Men's Soccer's, Alan Rivera, and Women's Soccer's, Lillia Besedin, have been recognized as MSU Student-Athletes of the Month for October, voted on by Midwestern State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Lillia Besedin, Women's Soccer, Senior

Besedin has propelled her team to a 15-match unbeaten run, dating back to September 7th. The midfielder leads the team in goals with eight, including scoring the game-winning goal in the Mustangs 2-0 victory over #1 DBU. The senior led the team past DBU, handing the Patriots their first loss of the season. Additionally, the Gilbert, Arizona native had a goal-line clearance against DBU to keep the match at 1-0, before MSU scored its second goal. The defensive minded midfielder has helped the Mustangs to seven shutouts this season, being one of the top defensive units in the Lone Star Conference. "Aside from the DBU match, Lillia has been a great leader both on and off the field, encouraging teammates and being a voice on the field throughout our season. She plays almost every minute in every game and continues to be a top player on the field" said said teammates. Besedin scored four goals in eight matches in the month in October, including six goals in their last eight matches. Lillia earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week in that time, winning the award on Oct. 20th.

Alan Rivera, Men's Soccer, Redshirt-Junior

Rivera has been one of the leading forwards for the Mustangs Men's Soccer program this season. The redshirt-junior's play has propelled the Mustangs to their 3rd LSC regular season title in the last five years and the No. 8 ranking in the country. The Round Rock, Texas native is at the heart of the Mustangs attack, scoring four goals with and assist during October.  "Alan has been a great confidence booster and leader for our team bringing people out of their shells. His reliability is second to none on and off the field." said teammates. Rivera is second on the team in points, raising his profile in conference play with four goals and two assists (10 points) on 17 shots and eight shots on goal.
