Mustangs run over Greyhounds, 5-0, in Portales

PORTALES, N.M. — Midwestern State (9-1-6, 9-0-4) secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico (0-16-0, 0-13-0) on Saturday, with 14 shots on goal contributing to the shutout win. The Mustangs extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games with the victory at Greyhound Stadium.

Midwestern State asserted control early in the first half against Eastern New Mexico, opening the scoring in the 13th minute with an unassisted goal. Bella Rose extended the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute, capitalizing on an assist from Leeci Snyder. The Mustangs continued to dominate, with Lillia Besedin scoring the third goal in the 41st minute, again assisted by Snyder. The Greyhounds' goalkeeper, Rosie Willmott Joyce, made several saves but couldn't prevent MSU from taking a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Maroon & Gold extended their lead early in the second half with a goal by Madison Brinkley in the 46th minute, assisted by Allessandra Romano, bringing the score to 4-0. The visitors continued to apply pressure, taking several shots on goal, including attempts by Rose and Ashlynn Knight, but were consistently denied by ENMU goalkeeper Willmott Joyce. In the 76th minute, Jimena Rodriguez added another goal for the Mustangs, making it 5-0. Despite a late effort from the Greyhounds, including a shot by Faith Zint saved by Tanner Sorenson, the home team was unable to find the back of the net, and the match concluded with the visitors securing a decisive win.

In their next game, the Mustangs will head to Patriot Soccer Field to face Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. CT.
