Duque and Sanchez win an all-MSU doubles final at the ITA DII Men's South Central Regional Championships

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In a battle of Mustangs, Juan David Duque and Bruno Sanchez outlasted Matthew Earle and Germano Setti in the doubles' final at the ITA DII Men's South Central Regional Championships at MSU Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Duque and Sanchez were the No. 7 seed in the 32-team draw and defeated three consecutive seeded pairings on their way to an automatic berth in the ITA Cup, which will be played in Rome, Georgia later this month.

In the quarterfinals, Duque and Sanchez eliminated the third-seeded duo of Mattia Ghedin and Marco Seccia of Lubbock Christian, 8-5. In the semifinals Duque and Sanchez overwhelmed the No. 6 seed from Cameron, Noe Milliard and Lukas Janousek, 8-2.

In the finals, Duque and Sanchez were matched up against teammates.

Earle and Setti, seeded No. 4 in the draw had eliminated the Lubbock Christian pairing of Pablo Segura and Kelly Giese in the round of 16, 8-7 (0).

Setti and Earle were the beneficiaries of a walkover in the semifinals as Jordan Georgiev and Andres De Los Rios, the eighth-seeded pairing from Lubbock Christian were unable to compete due to an injury.

The final came down to just a few points as Sanchez/Duque prevailed over Earle/Setti, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

Earle and Setti are likely to be considered for an at large bid to the ITA Cup.

Tomas Leguizamon reached the consolation final following a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 triumph over Ben Aaron Anton of St. Mary's in the semifinals.

Santiago Ledesma of Cameron ended being a Mustang killer on Saturday.

The sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, and transfer from Lamar started his day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rowan Olsen of MSU before defeating Leguizamon in the consolation final, 6-2, 6-3.

The 32 players in the consolation bracket dropped their first-round matches and were given a chance to redeem themselves in the second-chance bracket.

The ITA Cup is considered the Small College Nationals tournament with a cross-divisional national championship for Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College tennis.
The ITA Cup runs Oct. 16-19 at the Rome Tennis Center in Georgia.
