LAREDO, Texas — #18 Midwestern St. (5-2-3, 1-1-0) defeated Texas A&M International (2-2-5, 0-1-1) by a score of 5-1 at Dustdevil Field on Saturday, with four second-half goals securing the decisive victory.
Midwestern State and Texas A&M International kicked off their match with both teams demonstrating strong offensive efforts. The visiting MSU took early control with
Davis Mays attempting a shot in the third minute, but it was saved by Tex. A&M Int'l's goalkeeper Emmanuel Esquivel. The Dustdevils seized the lead in the 24th minute when Felipe Garcia scored, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity. MSU equalized shortly after, with
Alan Rivera finding the back of the net in the 30th minute, assisted by
Ethan Krchnak. The remainder of the half saw both teams exchanging shots, but neither could break the deadlock, ending the period tied 1-1.
The Mustangs took the lead early in the second half with a goal by E. Krchnak in the 55th minute, making the score 2-1. Just two minutes later, Rivera added another for MSU, pushing the lead to 3-1.
Parker Plaxco scored in the 74th minute, assisted by
Jaime Villagomez, solidifying the visitors' advantage.
Sune Espevoll capped the scoring with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by
Angel Escobar, to secure a decisive 5-1 victory over the Dustdevils.
Krchnak scored one goal and added an assist, contributing significantly to the team's offensive effort.
Daniel Robles was solid in goal, recording three saves while facing ten shots and conceding just one goal. Espevoll found the back of the net, finishing with one goal from two shots. Rivera led the team with two goals, converting all three of his shots on target.
The next challenge for the Mustangs is a home encounter against UT Tyler. The match is set for October 8 at 7 p.m. at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas.
