WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State(6-2-3, 2-1-0) secured a 2-0 victory over the University of Texas at Tyler (3-6-1, 0-3-0) on Wednesday night at Stang Park.
The first half began with the Mustangs establishing an early presence as
Liam Kervick capitalized on an assist from
Parker Plaxco to score in the 14th minute. This goal followed a series of offensive efforts, including shots by
Ethan Krchnak and Plaxco that tested the Patriots' defense.
Daniel Robles contributed defensively with key saves, maintaining the lead for the Maroon & Gold.
As the half progressed, UT Tyler increased their attempts to equalize but were consistently denied by Robles. MSU continued to press forward, with
Liam Pritchard generating additional scoring opportunities. The half closed with the Mustangs leading 1-0, having effectively contained UT Tyler's advances.
The second half was highlighted by a crucial goal from MSU as
Parker Plaxco found the net in the 66th minute, assisted by
Jaime Villagomez. This goal extended the Maroon & Gold's lead, building on their first half advantage. Despite several attempts from the Patriots, including a shot by Tony Ngombi, the home team's defense held firm.
Plaxco now has eight goals and three assists for the Mustangs this season.
MSU created multiple opportunities, including a shot by
Anthony Barrera that was blocked and attempts from both Pritchard and
Sune Espevoll, which were saved by UT Tyler's goalkeeper Niclas Becker.
The next challenge for the Mustangs comes as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma Christian. The match is set for October 11, with action beginning at 3 p.m. at Eagle Soccer Field.
