Mustangs extend unbeaten streak to 13 games with 2-1 win over UTPB

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (8-1-6, 8-0-4) secured a 2-1 home victory over UT Permian Basin (3-9-2, 2-9-1) at Stang Park on Wednesday. This victory extended Midwestern State's impressive 13-game unbeaten streak, while also continuing their 19-game unbeaten streak at home.

The match began with the Mustangs pressing the attack, resulting in an early goal by Morgan Countryman in the 12th minute, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. This marked Countryman's first collegiate goal, adding to the excitement of the game. MSU dominated possession in the first half, firing off multiple shots on goal, including attempts by Madison Brinkley and Nyxalee Munoz, both saved by UTPB's goalkeeper, Valeria Delgado. Despite a barrage of shots and corner kicks, the home team was unable to extend their lead. The Falcons managed a few attempts, with Allyson Reed shooting twice, but none found the target. The first half concluded with the Maroon & Gold ahead, 1-0.

Countryman extended MSU's lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 56th minute. The Mustangs maintained offensive pressure, with Munoz taking multiple shots, though Delgado made key saves for UTPB. In the 85th minute, Cassandra Ramirez, assisted by Sarah Williams, narrowed the gap to 2-1 with a goal for the visitors. Despite the Falcons' late efforts, the Maroon & Gold held on for the victory, finishing the regular season with a 6-0-1 record at Stang Park.

In their next game, the Mustangs will travel to face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 1, at noon CT. The match will take place at Greyhound Stadium.
