Stangs take unbeaten road record into match with Lubbock Christian

WICHITA FALLS – No. 9 ranked Midwestern State is on the road for a mid-week match at Lubbock Christian after defeating West Texas A&M 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff at LCU Soccer & Track Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Midwestern State (9-3-3, 5-2-0) is unbeaten in away matches this season with a 3-0-2 record — all three victories coming in conference play.

The Mustangs put their home woes behind them with their victory over the Buffaloes on Sunday afternoon at Stang Park. Cooper Tea scored on a shot from 25 yards out, and Parker Plaxco scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Jake Morris made two saves in the win over WT and improved his record to 4-2-2 with four clean sheets this season. Midwestern State shut out an opponent for the seventh time this season.

Midwestern State has outscored opponents 29-14 this season and has the best goal differential in the Lone Star Conference.

Lubbock Christian (6-6-3, 5-1-2) is two points ahead of the Mustangs in the LSC standings, and the Chaparrals have a three-game winning streak.

Francisco Horta and Kade McKinzie each scored goals, and Connor Pettigrew made four saves as LCU defeated visiting Dallas Baptist on Saturday. The Chaparrals improved their home record to 3-3-1 with the triumph over the Patriots.

Horta was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week after he scored game-winning goals for LCU against West Texas A&M and Dallas Baptist. The senior from Garland, Texas, leads the Chaps with five goals and an assist this season.

Horta has a three-game goal-scoring streak, and he scored four goals in his last five games.

Midwestern State is unbeaten in 14 meetings with Lubbock Christian, leading the all-time series 10-0-4, and the Mustangs have won the last three meetings, including a 5-1 victory the last time they visited LCU Soccer & Track Complex in 2023.

Last year at Stang Park, the Mustangs defeated LCU, 2-0.

Midwestern State plays its regular season finale against Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
