WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (7-1-6, 7-0-4) and UT Tyler (9-2-4, 6-2-4) played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Stang Park, with both teams scoring in the second half.
The opening half between the Mustangs and Patriots saw a flurry of activity from both teams but ended scoreless. MSU was aggressive, with
Allessandra Romano hitting the top woodwork in the 9th minute and
Nyxalee Munoz having multiple attempts, including a shot saved by UT Tyler's Robbi Curry in the 40th minute.
Lauren Short, the goalkeeper for the Maroon & Gold, made crucial saves, notably stopping a shot from Natalie Jones in the 10th minute. Despite numerous corner kicks and shots from both sides, neither team could find the back of the net by the end of the first half.
The action intensified in the second half when Larixsa Plascencia broke the tie for UT Tyler in the 76th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead. MSU responded quickly, leveling the score at 1-1 with a goal from
Lillia Besedin in the 79th minute, assisted by
Mable Pruter. Despite several fouls and offside calls, neither team could find the net again, concluding the match in a 1-1 draw.
Besedin scored for the fourth time in five games and is tied with Marlen Myrvold for the team lead with six goals. Pruter has an assist in five of the last six games and leads the Stangs with six assists this season.
Looking ahead, the Mustangs will host UT Permian Basin on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Stang Park. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. local time.
