Mustangs part of impressive field at DBU Classic in Rockwall

ROCKWALL, Texas – Midwestern State closes out its fall schedule at the DBU Classic, which is a 54-hole tournament, staged at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The field features 13 schools, including seven from the Lone Star Conference and No. 3-ranked Central Oklahoma.

No. 25-ranked Dallas Baptist has two teams competing in the tournament. No 9-ranked St. Mary's, No. 11-ranked UT Permian Basin, UT Dallas, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M International are the other LSC schools competing with Midwestern State this week.

The No. 33-ranked Mustangs come off a 10th-place finish in the 16-team Ryan Palmer Invitational at Amarillo Country Club two weeks ago.

Seth Bearden, who shot even-par in the final round with four birdies over his final 10 holes, finished tied for 11th place at 4-under 209.

Chase Kisver, who was competing as an individual, finished in 29th place at 1-over after shooting 1-over 72 in the final round.

Hank Germany and Nathan Nelson both shot 2-over 73 in the third round, and Germany finished tied for 34th at 2-over 215 for the tournament. Nelson tied for 47th at 5-over 218.

Anniston McIlwain shot even-par through the first two rounds but finished 4-over 217 and tied for 43rd place.

Bryce Hoech shot a five-over 76 in the final round and finished tied for 63rd at 8-over 221.

Last year, Midwestern State finished tied for sixth in a 12-team field at the DBU Classic with a 41-over, 54-hole total of 905.

Bearden tied for 21st with a 10-over 226, while Ryan Griff tied for 24th with an 11-over 227.

Hoech (80-79-81) finished 65th with a 24-over 240.

Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club, which opened in 1979, is a par-72, 7,182-yard course designed by Ralph Plummer and Jeffrey D. Blume. Plummer is in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame and designed, built or reworked Northwood Club, Lakewood Country Club, Preston Trail Golf Club, Champions Golf Club and Colonial Country Club.

The forecast for Monday calls for partly cloudy skies, high humidity, temperature in the high 70s and a southeasterly wind a 5-10 mph. The winds shift on Tuesday and increase in velocity out of the north at 15-25 mph, and the high temperature on the second day of competition is expected to be in the low 70s.
