WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State welcomes No. 8-ranked Central Washington to Memorial Stadium on Saturday night for the annual Homecoming Game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. The Mustangs are seeking their first-ever win over the Wildcats as they meet for the fifth time since 2021.
Midwestern State (2-5, 2-3) is coming off a 48-24 loss at 24th-ranked Angelo State last week. The Mustangs earned their first win of the season at Memorial Stadium two weeks ago as Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to the Mustangs, 31-24.
Since then, the Mustangs have beaten Sul Ross State, 69-23, and were defeated at Angelo State last Saturday night, 48-24.
Opponents are rushing for 233 yards per game against the Mustangs, but the offense is 14th in the nation with 289.7 passing yards per game.
The Midwestern State defense is allowing 463.6 yards and 37 points per game, while the offense is accumulating 407.7 yards and scoring nearly 30 points a game.
Despite playing five different quarterbacks this season, Midwestern State is fifth in the conference and 14th in the nation with 289.7 yards passing per game.
DeMonte Greene is the second-leading receiver in the conference with 94.1 yards receiving per game, which is 10th most among NCAA Division II receivers.
Greene leads the conference and is 17th in the nation in all-purpose yardage with 126 yards per game.
Greene has the fourth-most touchdown receptions in the LSC with five, and
Case Peacock has caught three touchdown passes this season.
Reginald Williams is the leading rusher for the Mustangs with 343 yards on 51 carries in four games this season. The freshman running back is averaging more than 85 yards per game and 6.7 yards per carry this season.
Midwestern State quarterbacks have completed 62.5 percent of their passes for 2,028 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Jakolby Longino and
Sean Jastrab have seen the most time under center this season, but both quarterbacks are questionable for the Homecoming Game on Saturday night.
Andrew Knebel,
Josh Thomas and
Canyon Evans have all seen time at quarterback this season.
Linebacker
Noah Bustard is the leading tackler for the Midwestern State defense, which is ranked ninth in the LSC. Bustard, a sophomore from transfer from Nebraska, has made 41 tackles, including 17 solo stops in seven games this season. He also has two sacks and recovered a fumble for the Stangs.
Midwestern State has forced 11 turnovers this season, and six different players have intercepted a pass.
Central Washington (6-1, 5-0) arrives in Wichita Falls with a five-game winning streak and is 2-1 on the road this season. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-21 victory against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Central Washington is the highest scoring team in the LSC and fourth in the nation with 44.3 points per game, and its defense is the stingiest in the conference, allowing a mere 19.3 points per game.
Quarterback Kennedy McGill, running backs Justice Taylor and Beau Phillips lead a rushing attack that is sixth best in Division II and leads the conference with 271 yards per game.
McGill, who rushes for 80.3 yards per game, has completed 52-of-100 passes for 875 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. McGill has only thrown three interceptions this season. McGill has eight rushing touchdowns and averages more than seven yards per carry.
Justice has rushed for 512 yards on 89 carries and scored six rushing touchdowns this season.
Phillips has 290 yards rushing on 52 carries with two touchdowns for the Wildcats.
Brady Logan, Jalen Grable and Mason Juergens are the leading receivers for Central Washington. Juergens has caught five touchdown passes, including a season-long 78-yard reception in a 52-6 win over West Texas A&M.
Linebacker Brett McCalla is the leading tackler for the Wildcats with 44 stops, including 24 solo tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Mika Roberson has three of the 12 interceptions for the Wildcat defense, which has forced 15 turnovers and has a plus-9 turnover ratio.
Central Washington pulled out a 10-7 victory in its only other trip to Memorial Stadium two years ago. Last year, in Ellensburg, Washington, the Wildcats defeated Midwestern State, 42-21.
Midwestern State travels to Western Oregon to meet the Wolves next Saturday afternoon at 3:05 CDT.
