WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State looks to remain unbeaten at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season and extend its home winning streak to 10 games as it hosts Western New Mexico on Thursday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Mustangs had a four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon as Mo Austin scored on a layup with three seconds to play, and Eastern New Mexico defeated MSU at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales, 83-81. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 9-3 for the season with a 4-2 record against Lone Star Conference opponents.
Bakari LaStrap scored a season-high 21 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and hit all 10 of his free throws in the loss to the Greyhounds. In his four games since returning to the lineup for the Mustangs, LaStrap is scoring 10.8 points and dishing out 2.8 assists per contest.
Mason Gibson, who scored 16 points at Eastern New Mexico, is the second-leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference with 18 points per game for the Mustangs.
Pierre Sanders was 15 of 27 from the field, including 5 of 9 from three-point range, and scored 35 points on the recent two-game road trip. The senior from Hutto, Texas, is the second-leading scorer for Midwestern State with 12.1 points per game.
Sanders is shooting 49.5 percent from the field (54 of 109) for a team that is shooting 46.2 percent, which is sixth-best in the conference.
