Midwestern State rolls to a 90-58 victory over Oklahoma Christian

WICHITA FALLS, TX -- Midwestern State raced out to an 11-point lead in the first five minutes of the game and by halftime led Oklahoma Christian by 25 points en route to a 90-58 victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs (14-4, 9-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Mason Gibson, who had 19 points and four steals. Reggie Hill added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Noah McDavid helped out with 12 points from the bench.

Midwestern State extended its home winning streak to 13 games and is 9-0 at home this season. 

The Mustangs hit 14-of-29 shots from 3-point range with Gibson, Will Shepherd and Jonathan Jackson all hitting three 3-pointers and McDavid finishing with two.

Oklahoma Christian entered the game shooting 47.1 percent from the field, but the Mustangs held the Eagles to 25.4 percent shooting. Oklahoma Christian finished the game 16 of 63, hitting 8-of-26 shots from 3-point distance. 

How It Happened

Midwestern State shot 54.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 11-of-20 from beyond the arc, as it took a 54-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. Gibson scored 17 points in the first half on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point distance. Jackson was 3-of-6 from long range and had nine points in the first half.Hill and Shepherd each scored eight points in the first half. 

Midwestern State maintained its defensive pressure in the second half. After the Eagles finished the first half 7-of-33 from the field, the went 9-of-30 in the second half. Hill scored four straight points in a 20-second span, and the Mustangs led 60-33 three minutes into the second half. Vojin Mastilovic came off the bench and hit 3-of-5 shots to finish with nine points in the second half. Mastilovic hit two free throws in the final minute as Midwestern State took a 34-point lead.
