SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Angelo State freshman Majik Esquivel poured in a career-high 31 points and the Rambelles went 6-of-7 from the arc in a decisive third period to pull away for an 84-61 win over Midwestern State Thursday night at Junell Center.
The Rambelles extended their winning streak to 11 consecutive games to improve to 13-3 on the season and 9-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Mustangs dropped their eighth straight road game to fall to 6-10 and 4-6.
Midwestern State takes on UT Permian Basin Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome in Odessa. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
How It Happened
Majik Esquivel and Madi Lumsden combined for five of Angelo State's six 3-pointers in a decisive third period as the Rambelles broke open a tie game, outscoring MSU 29-14 in the frame.
Midwestern State's cause was certainly not helped when Zarria Carter, who came in as the LSC's leading scorer and rebounder, was whistled for her third and fourth fouls of the game on the offensive end of the floor on consecutive possessions less than three minutes into the half.
The 'Belles constructed runs of 10-0 and 8-0 to take a 59-42 advantage into the final period.
Midwestern State led by as many as six points in the first half, but failed to expand on its opportunities by going 1-for-13 on layup opportunities.
