Dickens, Minns named LSC Scholar Athletes

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Skylar Minns and Keaton Dickens earned Lone Star Conference Scholar Athlete honors as released by league officials Wednesday afternoon.

Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives for the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship, and leadership that are displayed on campus each year.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated in at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.

Minns, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance degree his spring, carried a 3.48 grade-point average while playing a central role in helping the Mustangs to an NCAA Division II national semifinal appearance this spring.

The Aransas Pass native boasted a 15-8 singles record, including a 12-6 run at No. 5 as the Mustangs rolled to a 22-5 record including a 10-0 run through the Lone Star Conference.

Minns provided a solid base of leadership for the Mustangs and was tabbed the LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year. She was also recognized by her peers as the 24Strong Teammate of the Year this season.

The 5-8 senior also received the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award for the South Central Region from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Minns is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete and earned LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll acclaim on seven occasions throughout her career.

Dickens graduated with a Master of Sport Administration degree this spring, completing the program with a 4.00 grade-point average.

A local native from Iowa Park, Dickens played a key role in back-to-back NCAA Division II postseason showing by the Mustangs over the past two seasons.

He improved from a season stroke average of 75.14 as a junior in 2022-23 to a 73.79 stroke average this season. In all, Dickens carded four rounds in the 60s over the past seasons and par-or-better scores on 20 occasions.

Dickens, who also earned a bachelor of science in sport and leisure studies from MSU, earned the Mustang Scholar Award for carrying the program's highest GPA in each of his last two academic years. He was also on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll following six semesters.
