WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Addison Lindemann won her fourth consecutive start, and Midwestern State extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on a soggy Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
Lindeman (5-9) pitched her sixth complete game of the season, including each of her last three starts, and worked her way out of trouble throughout the game. The freshman from Holliday, Texas, allowed five hits through seven innings and issued four walks without allowing an earned run. Lindemann threw 92 of 148 pitches for strikes and had three strikeouts in the game.
Lindemann's opponent in the circle, Beth Montes (12-8), retired the first eight Mustangs she faced before walking
Chloe Bryant with two outs in the third inning.
Chloe Bryant stole second base and was able to score on
Kayla Bryant's single up the middle.
Kayla Bryant's 11th RBI of the season gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Camile Nunez and
Megan Ayala hit back-to-back doubles to increase the MSU advantage to 2-0. Ayala hit her seventh double of the season and drove in her 10th run.
Nunez has a seven-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 11 of her last 14 games for the Mustangs. In her last four games, Nunez has a double and two home runs. During her hitting streak, the senior shortstop is hitting .474 (9-of-19).
Texas A&M-Kingsville managed to score an unearned run in the seventh inning. Victoria Mosqueda reached on an error to lead off the inning, and Shelbie Peal came in to run the bases for the junior catcher. Peal advanced to second base on a wild pitch with two outs and scored on Kayla Gonzales' single to right field.
Lindemann had to face the Javelinas' clean-up hitter to close out the game. Aaliyah Ortiz leads the Javelinas with nine home runs and 45 RBIs this season, but she ended the game with a ground ball to
Maegan Shannon at third base.
The game was delayed 90 minutes in the fifth inning because of lightning in the area.
In her last 10 appearances, Lindemann is 5-2 with a 0.75 ERA, and opponents are only hitting .161 against the deceptive right-hander. Over the last 55 2/3 innings in the circle, Lindemann has only allowed six earned runs on 32 hits. Lindemann, who had a 5.89 ERA after her first 12 appearances, has lowered her ERA for the season to 3.30.
Midwestern State has a five-game winning streak in the Lone Star Conference for the first time since 2014 and improved to 11-29 for the season with a 9-22 record in the conference. The Mustangs are 7-8 over their last 15 games.
Texas A&M-Kingsville has lost six of its last seven games and fell to 25-17 for the season. The Javelinas are 18-16 in the LSC.
The two teams will play a doubleheader at Mustangs Park on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
