Dustdevils visit MSU, final homestand for six seniors

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State wraps up the regular season with a three-game series against Texas A&M International. The series begins with a doubleheader at Mustangs Park on Friday at 1 p.m. and concludes with a noon game on Saturday.

Before the season finale, Midwestern State will recognize the contributions of six seniors as the Mustangs celebrate Senior Day at Mustangs Park. Chloe Bryant, Kennedy Cameron, Kerris Cameron, Brianna Dominguez, Levi Luna and Grace Martinez will don the Maroon and Gold for the final time.

SERIES HISTORY | Midwestern State leads the all-time series, 11-6, but the Dustdevils have won six of the last seven meetings. Last season in Laredo, TAMIU opened the series with a 4-0 win over the Mustangs and took the second game of a doubleheader, 7-3. The Dustdevils completed the series sweep with a 3-0 victory. Megan Ayala was 2-for-3 against Darrian Smith in the second game of the series at Dustdevil Field. Midwestern State is 4-1 when hosting TAMIU, which split a doubleheader in its last visit. The Mustangs won the opener, 10-7, and the Dustdevils took the nightcap, 7-5. Kennedy Cameron was the winning pitcher for MSU in the 2021 victory. Cameron worked six innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
 

MUSTANGS NOTES

- Midwestern State (12-36, 10-29 LSC) has won five of its last six games at Mustangs Park. MSU swept a series against Western New Mexico and won two of three games against Texas A&M-Kingsville during its last homestand. The Mustangs are 6-17 at home this season and return home following a 0-6 road trip at St. Mary's and St. Edward's.

- Sophomore slugger Allie Monroe has a four-game hitting streak and has scored a run in all four of those games. She had a career-high four hits in the first game at St. Mary's and blasted a home run in the final game of the series. Monroe hit .556 in the series (5-for-9). Monroe has eight multi-hit games this season. She leads the team with a .299 batting average, nine doubles, two triples, and seven homers while driving in a team-best 23 runs. Monroe has the best slugging percentage among the Mustangs at .547, and she leads the team with 75 total bases this season. The Lawton, Oklahoma, native also leads the team with a .386 on-base percentage.

- Sophomore second baseman Kayla Bryant is second on the team with a .368 on-base percentage and has a team-leading 17 walks this season. Bryant is hitting .245 with four doubles and a triple this season. Bryant was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-7 loss at St. Edward's on April 19.

- Freshman outfielder Paige Gallegos has a .238 batting average with five doubles, four home runs, and 21 RBIs. Gallegos has 10 multi-hit games this season. The Iowa Park, Texas, native is third on the team with 34 hits and second on the squad with 51 total bases. She is 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.

- Camile Nunez, a senior shortstop, has a four-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 15 of her last 19 games. Nunez is hitting .370 (20-for-54) with two doubles, a triple and two home runs in that span. The native of Madera, California was 3-for-3 in at 8-7 loss at St. Edward's on April 19. Nunez has at least one hit in 33 of 47 games this season and is second on the team with a .270 batting average. Nunez has enjoyed a seven-game hitting streak, a six-game hitting streak and a five-game hitting streak over the course of the season.

- Sophomore catcher Megan Ayala is hitting .236 with an on-base percentage of .314. Ayala has hit eight doubles, a home run and has 14 RBIs for the Mustangs. She is tied for fourth in the LSC with eight sacrifice bunts this season. Ayala has thrown out 16 of 49 runners, leading the league with the most runners caught stealing.

- Senior Kennedy Cameron (3-8) has a 3.60 ERA for the Mustangs. The Longview native has allowed 46 earned runs on 73 hits with 84 strikeouts and 69 walks in 89 1/3 innings. She ranks 10th in the LSC with a .219 opponent batting average. Cameron threw 126 pitches in a one-hit shutout against UTPB. She struck out 12 Falcons and only issued two walks in the 5-0 win on March 3. Cameron has the ninth-most strikeouts in the conference and is averaging 6.6 strikeouts per seven innings pitched, which is seventh-best in the LSC.

Addison Lindemann (6-11) leads the team with 26 appearances in the circle and has thrown the most innings among Mustang pitchers with 124 innings pitched. For the season, Lindemann has a 3.90 ERA and 96 strikeouts, which is fifth-most in the LSC. Lindemann has thrown a team-leading nine complete games this season. Lindemann struck out a career-high 13 in a 4-2 victory over Western New Mexico on April 6. The freshman from Holliday, Texas, pitched a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 win at ENMU on March 29. She had a nine strikeout performance in her first start against the Greyhounds — a 4-2 victory on March 28. Lindemann had an eight-inning outing at TWU, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks in a 2-1 triumph. She also worked 1 2/3 innings of relief in the final game of the series at TWU and allowed just one hit in the 3-1 loss. Lindemann threw a complete game two-hitter against No. 6-ranked UT Tyler on March 9 and allowed just two earned runs. The right-hander had four strikeouts and three walks in the 4-3 loss to the Patriots. She also contributes to the Mustangs offense. Lindemann is 17-for-72 at the plate (.236) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs this season.

- Midwestern State has turned 20 double plays this season, which is third-most in the LSC and 18th-most among NCAA Division II programs.

- Mustang batters have laid down 30 sacrifice bunts, which is fourth-most in the conference and 77th-most in the nation.

- MSU is 5-11 in one-run games this season and 2-6 in extra-inning contests.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS | Texas A&M International (15-34, 12-27) has a seven-game losing streak and has been outscored in that span, 31-2… TAMIU is 1-8 in its last nine games but has played the top-three schools in the LSC standings during that stretch: Angelo State, West Texas A&M and UT Tyler… TAMIU is 7-13 on the road this season… TAMIU is 10th in the conference with a team batting average of .253… The Dustdevils average 2.73 runs per game, which is 12th in the league…TAMIU only has 14 stolen bases on 25 attempts this season, which is the second fewest in the LSC… Kennedy Griego is hitting .351 (54-for-154) with seven doubles, a triple and one home run for the Dustdevils… Griego leads the team with .394 on-base percentage…. Griego has only struck out three times in 154 at bats and is the seventh-toughest hitter to strike out in Division II, the toughest to strikeout in the LSC… Victoria Gonzalez leads the team with 10 homeruns (sixth-most in the LSC) and 31 RBIs…Gonzalez is hitting .316 with a team-leading .546 slugging percentage… TAMIU has a -94 run differential… The team ERA is 4.09, which is 10th in the conference… Kylie Goad is 7-7 in the circle with a 3.50 ERA…Goad has allowed 103 hits over 92 innings with 30 strikeouts and 35 walks… Goad has 17 appearances and 16 starts this season… Opponents are hitting .284 against Goad… Carla Arellano leads the team with 18 appearances, 17 starts and 103 2/3 innings pitched… Opponents are hitting .325 against Arellano with 45 extra-base hits, including 25 doubles and 17 home runs… Arellano has 29 strikeouts with 27 walks issued and leads the team with eight complete games… TAMIU is fifth in the conference with a .964 fielding percentage… Opponents have successfully stolen 60 bases on 67 attempts against the Dustdevils… TAMIU pitchers have surrendered 46 home runs, 66 doubles and 11 triples this season… Opponents have 123 extra-base hits, and the Dustdevils have 70 with 19 home runs, 48 doubles and three triples…
