AUSTIN, Texas -- Midwestern State makes its final road trip of the season as it visits St. Edward's for a three-game series. The doubleheader at Diane Daniels Field begins at noon on Friday, and the series concludes with a noon game on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY | Midwestern State leads the all-time series, 16-12, and has won four of the last five meetings. The Mustangs closed the 2023 regular season by taking two of three games from the Hilltoppers, who won the series finale, 2-1. Midwestern State swept the doubleheader on the previous day at Mustangs Park.
Kennedy Cameron and
Zoe Isom were the winning pitchers. Cameron held the Hilltoppers to one run on six hits, while recording six strikeouts in a 4-1 win in Game 1, while Isom outdueled SEU ace Cadie Belle Currie, limiting the Hilltoppers to one run on six hits with five strikeouts in a 3-1 victory in the second game.
MUSTANGS NOTES
- Midwestern State (12-33, 10-26 LSC) has won three of its last four series against LSC opponents, but the Mustangs were swept in a three-game series at St. Mary's last weekend. Midwestern State had 15 hits in a 10-inning affair but stranded 18 runners and lost the series opener, 7-6. Breanna Ford silenced the MSU bats in the second game of the series, allowing one run on no hits in a 9-1 victory as the Mustangs committed five errors. In the series finale, Reba Reyes hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and the Rattlers prevailed, 5-1.
- Sophomore slugger
Allie Monroe had a career-high four hits in the first game at St. Mary's and blasted a home run in the final game of the series. Monroe hit .556 in the series (5-for-9). Monroe has eight multi-hit games this season. She leads the team with a .297 batting average, nine doubles, two triples, and seven homers while driving in a team-best 23 runs. Monroe has the best slugging percentage among the Mustangs at .563, and she leads the team with 72 total bases this season. The Lawton, Oklahoma, native is second on the squad with a .385 on-base percentage.
- Sophomore second baseman
Kayla Bryant leads the team with a .388 on-base percentage and has a team-leading 17 walks this season. Bryant is hitting .253 with three doubles and a triple this season.
- Freshman outfielder
Paige Gallegos has a .246 batting average with five doubles, four home runs, and 21 RBIs. Gallegos has 10 multi-hit games this season. The Iowa Park, Texas, native is third on the team with 34 hits and second on the squad with 51 total bases. She is 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
- Nunez, a senior shortstop, has hit safely in 12 of her last 16 games and is hitting .341 (15-for-44) with two doubles and two home runs in that span. Nunez has at least one hit in 30 of 44 games this season and is third on the team with a .254 batting average. Nunez has enjoyed a seven-game hitting streak, a six-game hitting streak and a five-game hitting streak over the course of the season.
- Sophomore catcher
Megan Ayala is hitting .228 with an on-base percentage of .315. Ayala has hit seven doubles, a home run and has 11 RBIs for the Mustangs. She is tied for fourth in the LSC with eight sacrifice bunts this season. Ayala has thrown out 14 of 44 runners, leading the league with the most runners caught stealing.
- Senior
Kennedy Cameron (3-7) has a 3.92 ERA for the Mustangs. The Longview native has allowed 44 earned runs on 62 hits with 79 strikeouts and 66 walks in 79 innings. She ranks ninth in the LSC with a .209 opponent batting average. Cameron threw 126 pitches in a one-hit shutout against UTPB. She struck out 12 Falcons and only issued two walks in the 5-0 win on March 3. Cameron has the 13th-most strikeouts in the conference and is averaging 7.0 strikeouts per seven innings pitched, which is seventh-best in the LSC.
Addison Lindemann (6-10) leads the team with 21 appearances in the circle and has thrown the most innings among Mustang pitchers with 103 1/3 innings pitched. In her last 13 appearances in the circle, Lindemann has a 1.78 ERA and has allowed just 48 hits over her last 67 innings with 53 strikeouts and 38 walks in that span. For the season, Lindemann has a team-leading 3.60 ERA and 95 strikeouts, which is seventh-most in the LSC. Lindemann has thrown a team-leading nine complete games this season. Lindemann struck out a career-high 13 in a 4-2 victory over Western New Mexico on April 6. The freshman from Holliday, Texas, pitched a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 win at ENMU on March 29. She had a nine strikeout performance in her first start against the Greyhounds — a 4-2 victory on March 28. Lindemann had an eight-inning outing at TWU, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks in a 2-1 triumph. She also worked 1 2/3 innings of relief in the final game of the series at TWU and allowed just one hit in the 3-1 loss. Lindemann threw a complete game two-hitter against No. 6-ranked UT Tyler on March 9 and allowed just two earned runs. The right-hander had four strikeouts and three walks in the 4-3 loss to the Patriots. She also contributes to the Mustangs offense. Lindemann is 17-for-65 at the plate (.262) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs this season.
- Midwestern State has turned 20 double plays this season, which is third-most in the LSC and 15th-most among NCAA Division II programs.
