Mustangs hope to rattle St. Mary's in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Midwestern State is 7-2 over its last nine games and is on the road to face St. Mary's in a three-game series. A doubleheader begins Saturday at 1 p.m., and a single game is scheduled for St. Mary's Softball field at noon on Sunday.

SERIES HISTORY | St. Mary's leads the all-time series, 17-7, and has won the last 12 meetings. MSU is 1-9 when visiting the Rattlers and has not won in San Antonio since a 1-0 victory in 2006.
 

Mustangs Notes

- Midwestern State (12-30, 10-23 LSC) has won its last three series against LSC opponents. The Mustangs took two of three games at Eastern New Mexico before sweeping Western New Mexico at Mustangs Park and going 2-1 against visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville in a mid-week series.

- Sophomore slugger Allie Monroe leads the team with a .277 batting average, eight doubles, two triples, and six homers while driving in a team-best 21 runs. Monroe has the best slugging percentage among the Mustangs at .529, and she leads the team with 63 total bases this season. The Lawton, Oklahoma, native is second on the squad with a .374 on-base percentage.

- Sophomore second baseman Kayla Bryant was 4-for-10 against TAMUK with two RBIs and a run scored. Bryant is hitting .263 and leads the team with a .374 on-base percentage.

- Freshman outfielder Paige Gallegos has a .246 batting average with five doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBIs. Gallegos has nine multi-hit games this season and hit .444 at Eastern New Mexico (4-for-9) with a double, a homer and two RBIs in the series. The Iowa Park, Texas, native is second on the team with 32 hits and 49 total bases. She is 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.

- Nunez, a senior shortstop, hit .412 in the recent six-game homestand, including a 3-for-3 performance in the series finale against Western New Mexico. She has at least one hit in 30 of her 42 games for the Mustangs. Nunez is tied for team lead with 33 hits, and the transfer from Texas A&M-Commerce has two home runs, six doubles and a triple this season with eight RBIs. Nunez has scored a run in seven of her last eight games.

- Sophomore catcher Megan Ayala is hitting .219 with an on-base percentage of .297. Ayala has hit seven doubles, a home run and has 10 RBIs for the Mustangs. She is tied for second in the LSC with eight sacrifice bunts this season. Ayala has thrown out 13 of 35 base stealers and is tied for the conference lead.

- Senior Kennedy Cameron (3-7) has a 3.92 ERA for the Mustangs. The Longview native has allowed 42 earned runs on 58 hits with 78 strikeouts and 61 walks in 75 innings. She ranks seventh in the LSC with a .209 opponent batting average. Cameron threw 126 pitches in a one-hit shutout against UTPB. She struck out 12 Falcons and only issued two walks in the 5-0 win on March 3. Cameron has the 10th-most strikeouts in the conference and is averaging 7.3 strikeouts per seven innings pitched, which is fourth-best in the LSC.

Addison Lindemann (6-10) leads the team with 21 appearances in the circle and has thrown the most innings among Mustang pitchers with 103 1/3 innings pitched. In her last 11 appearances, Lindemann has a 1.08 ERA, allowing just nine earned runs on 37 hits over 58 innings with 45 strikeouts in that span. For the season, Lindemann has a team-leading 3.42 ERA and 91 strikeouts, which is sixth-most in the LSC. Lindemann threw her eighth complete game of the season and did not allow an earned run in a 2-1 victory over TAMUK on April 9. Lindemann struck out a career-high 13 in a 4-2 victory over Western New Mexico on April 6. The freshman from Holliday, Texas, pitched a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 win at ENMU on March 29. She had a nine strikeout performance in her first start against the Greyhounds — a 4-2 victory on March 28. Lindemann had an eight-inning outing at TWU, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks in a 2-1 triumph. She also worked 1 2/3 innings of relief in the final game of the series at TWU and allowed just one hit in the 3-1 loss. Lindemann threw a complete game two-hitter against No. 6-ranked UT Tyler on March 9 and allowed just two earned runs. The right-hander had four strikeouts and three walks in the 4-3 loss to the Patriots. Lindemann had seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a 5-4 loss at UTPB on March 2. Lindemann pitched the final two innings of a 6-5 eight-inning win at UTPB in the nightcap on March 2 and earned her first win of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out three Falcons. Lindemann made her collegiate debut as a relief pitcher against Colorado Mesa at Scrap Yard Sports in Conroe, Texas. Lindemann worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits, while striking out six Mavericks in the 4-3 loss on Feb. 2. The following day, Lindemann worked 8 2/3 innings of relief without allowing an earned run on four hits and struck out six in a 2-1 extra-inning loss to Rogers State. Lindemann threw a season-high 149 pitches against the Hillcats. She also contributes the Mustangs offense, Lindemann is 15-for-56 at the plate (.277) with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs this season.

- Midwestern State has turned 17 double plays this season, which is fourth-most in the LSC and 14th-most among NCAA Division II programs.

- Mustang batters have laid down 28 sacrifice bunts, which is fourth-most in the conference and 51st-most in the nation.

- MSU is 5-9 in one-run games this season and 2-5 in extra-inning contests.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS | St. Mary's (24-18, 19-11) had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 7-3 loss at Texas Woman's… St. Mary's is 11-4 with a four-game winning streak at home… The Rattlers are hitting .294 as a team, which is fifth-best in the conference… St. Mary's is third in the conference with 76 stolen bases, led by Raegan Tennill, who has swiped 14 bases and is 14th in the LSC…Tennill has a .408 on-base percentage with 26 RBIs, and she has seven extra-base hits with four doubles, two triples and a home run…Reba Reyes leads the Rattlers with 37 RBIs, nine home runs, 12 doubles and four triples…Reyes is hitting .350 (41-for-117)… Erika Gomez leads the team with a .367 batting average (47-for-128)… Gomez has three doubles and 25 RBIs… The Rattlers have a 3.79 team ERA, which is seventh in the conference…Savannah Youngblood leads the Rattlers with eight wins in the circle, but 22 of her 23 appearances have been in relief… Youngblood has a team-leading 1.94 ERA…Madeline Bloom has thrown a team-leading 76 innings and is 4-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 16 appearances, including 14 starts… Jadyn Abrego has a 3.03 ERA over 71 2/3 innings and is 5-4 for the Rattlers in 18 appearances with 12 starts… Breanna Ford leads the team with 15 starts in 20 appearances and has a 4.76 ERA…Ford leads the team with 44 strikeouts and 47 walks through 57 1/3 innings….

NEXT UP | Midwestern State travels to Austin for a three-game series at St. Edward's on Friday and Saturday. The doubleheader with the Hilltoppers begins at noon on Friday, and the series concludes with a noon game on Saturday.
