PORTALES, N.M. -- Addison Lindemann turned in a strong pitching performance, and she contributed two hits with an RBI in a 4-2 victory at Greyhound Softball Field on Thursday afternoon.
Allie Monroe launched two home runs in the nightcap, but the Greyhounds pounded out 12 hits — including five extra-base hits — to win 9-5.
GAME 1 | Midwestern State 4, Eastern New Mexico 2
Lindemann, the freshman pitcher from Holliday, Texas, struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed just three hits over six innings as Midwestern State won the opening game of the doubleheader, 4-2.
Kennedy Cameron allowed a walk and a hit in the seventh inning but earned her first save of the season for the Mustangs. Lindemann improved to 3-9 for the season.
Lindemann broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single to right center that drove in
Brianna Dominguez.
Megan Ayala gave the Stangs a 2-0 lead by driving in Monroe with a base hit.
Camile Nunez hit a shallow fly ball to left field that was dropped by Aylene Lucero, allowing
Paige Gallegos and
Kerris Cameron to score two more runs for the Mustangs. Cameron was running for Lindemann.
The Greyhounds got all three of their hits off Lindemann in the sixth inning and scored two runs. Cecilia Jurado and Marissa Rodriguez drove in runs for ENMU with base hits.
Midwestern State had nine hits — all singles —and Lindemann was the only player with multiple hits as she finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Mustangs.
Marissa Rodriguez worked 6 1/3 innings in the circle for ENMU, and she allowed four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Rodriguez's record fell to 8-7 for the season.
GAME 2 | Midwestern State 4, Eastern New Mexico 9
Monroe, a sophomore from Lawton, Oklahoma, hit a solo homer in the first inning and hit another solo shot in the seventh inning. Gallegos also homered to left field in the fifth inning, but the Greyhounds put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Mustangs, 9-5.
Monroe enjoyed her second two-homer game of the season for the Mustangs, and she now leads the team with five home runs and 20 RBIs.
Kayla Bryant delivered her eighth RBI of the season with a base hit to center field, driving home Nunez in the fourth inning.
After Monroe's second homer of the game to lead off the seventh inning, Lindemann reached on a walk. Gallegos hit a double, and Lindemann wheeled her way to third base. A wild pitch allowed Lindemann to score the second run of the inning, but the Greyhounds retired the next three batters to end the game.
Eastern New Mexico took the lead with three runs in the third inning and added a run in the fifth inning.
Samantha Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with two doubles and drove in three runs, while Mikenzey Patterson was 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and scored two runs for the Greyhounds.
Kennedy Cameron started the second game for the Mustangs and allowed three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts in two innings.
Elizabeth Uhl relieved Cameron and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Uhl took the loss and fell to 1-7 for the season.
Zoe Isom worked 2/3 of an inning, and the Greyhounds scored four runs on three hits as she faced seven batters in the fifth inning.
Shyanne Florence pitched the final inning and gave up one run on two hits as she threw nine of 15 pitches for strikes.
Emma Southerland allowed five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in six innings and earned the win. Southerland improved to 8-8 as she made her 16th start of the season for ENMU.
Midwestern State is 6-29 overall with a 4-22 record in the Lone Star Conference. ENMU is 20-17 overall and 13-16 against LSC foes.
The rubber game of the series is scheduled for Friday afternoon. First pitch at Greyhound Softball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT.
