CONROE, Texas -- Allie Monroe hit a double and a homer to lead Midwestern State to its first win of the season Saturday afternoon at the D2 First Pitch Invitational.
And freshman
Addison Lindemann took another hard luck loss as the Mustangs split games on the final day of play.
MSU (1-3) faces East Central (Okla.) in a home opening twin bill Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitches are set for 2 and 4 p.m.
MIDWESTERN STATE 4, CENTRAL WASHINGTON 1
Monroe erupted for three hits including a double and a home run while driving in a pair of runs to guide MSU to a 4-1 win over Central Washington at the Scrapyard Sports Complex.
Freshman
Elizabeth Uhl won her collegiate debut, allowing one run on four hits in four innings before sophomore
Sydney Gonzales came on to pitch three innings of one-hit relief to finish off the save.
The Mustangs struck for two runs in the third inning with Monroe driving on
Chloe Bryant with a one-out single to center field.
Maegan Shannon delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to plate
Camile Nunez to give MSU a 2-0 advantage.
Central Washington scored a run in the third inning, but the Mustangs answered with a Bryant RBI-single in the fourth and Monroe tacked on a solo homer in the seventh.
Bryant and Nunez added two hits each as the top three in the lineup accounted for seven of MSU's nine hits.
#19 ROGERS STATE 2, MIDWESTERN STATE 1 (9 INNINGS)
Rogers State took advantage of a two-out throwing error and a wild pitch in the ninth inning to survive Midwestern State 2-1 Saturday night at the Scrapyard Sports Complex.
The result only but a minor damper on an incredible outing by
Addison Lindemann.
The freshman from Holliday held the No. 19-ranked Hillcats scoreless for eight innings by working her way out of bases loaded with one-out jam in the fourth, then stranded the potential winning run at third after the Rogers State successfully executed a leadoff sacrifice bunt in the eighth to advance the runner to third under the international tiebreaker.
Lindemann allowed a pair of unearned runs on four hits in 8 2/3 innings. She recorded six strikeouts.
She finished the D2 Leadoff Invitational with a 0.46 ERA, permitting a single earned run on eight hits in 15 1/3 innings.
Midwestern State took a brief lead in the top of the ninth inning with
Camile Nunez scoring on
Paige Gallegos' RBI ground out to the pitcher.
MSU junior
Myranda Jimenez recorded the only extra-base hit with a double in the seventh inning.
Chloe Bryant,
Camile Nunez,
Maegan Shannon, and Briana Dominguez all added singles.
