LAWTON, Okla. -- Midwestern State grasped control of the game for a solid 19-minute stretch in the season finale Thursday night at Aggie Gym.
But when push came to shove in the late minutes, it was Cameron that showed the toughness as the Aggies rallied to overtake the lead, then shut out the Mustangs over the final three minutes to score a 64-58 win.
It was Cameron's sixth win in its final seven home games as the Aggies closed the regular season with a 17-11 and 13-9 to tie for seventh in Lone Star Conference play.
The one loss in that stretch – a 71-57 setback to Texas A&M International last Thursday – served as the tiebreaker to make the Aggies the No. 8 seed in next week's LSC Postseason Tournament. Cameron will face top-seeded West Texas A&M in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Senior guard Jaylan Thomas scored 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers while grabbing six rebounds, but it was Jaxon Ingram who provided the spark late in the game for the Aggies.
The 6-6 forward tallied eight points and pulled down six rebounds in 17 minutes and he received more bench help from Thai Elder, who had 11 points on the strength of two 3-pointers.
Junior forward
Reggie Hill paced Midwestern State with 12 points on 4-of-10 with two triples, while
Mason Gibson and
Pierre Sanders had 11 points each.
The Mustangs close the season with a 16-12 and finished 10th in the LSC with a 10-12 record in league play.
