WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State rallied twice to tie Cameron in the closing game of a three-game series, but the Aggies scored seven runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Mustangs, 15-8, at Mustangs Park on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman right fielder
Paige Gallegos hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run second inning as the Mustangs tied the game after falling behind, 6-0.
Kayla Bryant drove home the first run of the inning with a single to left, scoring
Maegan Shannon, who led off the inning with a base hit.
Camile Nunez hit a two-run single before Gallegos crushed a 1-1 pitch from Jocelyn Bright over the left field fence.
Kaiden Boren and Madysen Boutwell both hit solo homers in the fourth inning as Cameron reclaimed the lead, 8-6, but MSU answered in the sixth inning.
Gallegos drove home her fourth run of the game with a double to right-center, scoring Breanna Dominguez. A throwing error allowed Gallegos to reach third base.
Allie Monroe drove home her 16th run of the season with a one-out double to right field and tied the game, 8-8.
Chloe Pemberton led off the seventh inning with a base hit, and Savannah Pemberton hit a two-run home run to left field to put the Aggies in front, 10-8. Cameron scored five more runs as 12 women batted, and the Aggies scored seven runs on two hits with one error in the inning. Cameron took advantage of four walks and two hit batsmen in the inning.
Taylor Rowley led off the game with a home run to center field, and the Aggies scored four more runs off four more hits in the opening frame to take a 5-0 lead. Rylee Ross delivered an RBI single to score Rowley in the second inning as Cameron established a 6-0 lead.
Junior
Zoe Isom made her second start of the season and was the first of four pitchers to enter the circle for MSU on Sunday. Isom allowed five runs on five hits with two walks in the first inning but did not figure in the decision.
Sydney Gonzales came in to start the second inning, making her seventh relief appearance for the Mustangs this season. The sophomore from Lenorah, Texas, surrendered one run on one hit with three walks over 2/3 of an inning.
Elizabeth Uhl closed out the second inning and worked five innings, allowing six runs on five hits with three walks. Uhl took the loss and fell to 1-4 for the season.
Kennedy Cameron closed out the game with her second relief appearance of the season.
Stormee Reed worked five innings in relief for the Aggies and improved to 4-0 this season, allowing two runs on two hits with five walks. Reed earned her second win of the series.
Bright from Burkburnett, Texas, made her sixth start of the season and her second of the series for Cameron. She threw a complete game three-hitter on Friday but allowed six runs on five hits over two innings on Sunday.
Cameron improved to 8-5 for the season, and the Aggies are 5-4 against conference opponents.
Midwestern State (2-14, 0-9) returns to Mustangs Park on Tuesday to start a three-game series with West Texas A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. The series wraps up on Wednesday with a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
