Gibson pours in 31 points in Midwestern State's 77-75 loss at No. 5 DBU

DALLAS --Mason Gibson poured in 31 points, but the Midwestern State fell to No. 5-ranked Dallas Baptist 77-75 Wednesday night at the Burg Center.

Gibson connected on 9-of-12 shots from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, while going 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. It was his second 30-point effort the campaign and fourth game with at least 20 points.

The junior from Allen, Texas, added three steals as the Mustangs to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

Matija Svetozarevic helped out with 14 points, while Reggie Hill chipped in with five points, 10 rebounds and two blocks coming off the bench.

Senior guard Ricky Lujan paced DBU with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Cameron Kahn scored 12 points.

Midwestern State takes on UT Tyler Friday night at he Herrington Patriot Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

How It Happened

Ricky Lujan scored eight of his team-high 20 points to lead DBU on a 15-0 run midway through the first half. The Patriots pushed the lead to 13 points when Justin Haire canned a jumper with 8:02 to play in the first half.

Midwestern State whittled DBU's lead down to two points at halftime, but the Patriots led by as many 12 points in the second half.

The reslient Mustangs pulled to within two points on three occasions in the second half, including twice in the final 13 seconds of the game.

Game Notes

» Mason Gibson connected on 9-of-12 shots from the field including a pair of 3-pointers, while going 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to finish with 31 points. The total was just two points off of his career-best, 33-point performance set earlier this season in a double-overtime win over Adams State.
» Senior Matija Svetozarevic contributed a season-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting including a pair of 3-pointers. He has connected on a triple in all seven games this season and made two 3s on four occasions.
» Senior Reggie Hill snagged a team-high 10 rebounds. The Melbourne, Florida, native has grabbed at least 10 boards in three of his last four games.
» Midwestern State held the Patriots to a season-low 41.3 team field goal percentage (26-for-43).
» Midwestern State set season highs with 20 made free throws on 25 attempts.
