Midwestern State falls 87-61 at Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, TX -- Zarria Carter scored 17 points, and Kerbie Cash finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, but Midwestern State fell to Lubbock Christian, 87-61, at the Rip Griffin Center on Saturday afternoon.

Emillia Steele added six points and five assists for the Mustangs (1-5, 0-1), who lost to the Lady Chaps for the 10th straight time in the series. 

Grace Foster led Lubbock Christian with 22 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Lady Chaps remain undefeated with a 7-0 record overall and a 2-0 mark in conference play.

How It Happened

Midwestern State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 26-17 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustangs continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 45-33 halftime deficit.

Midwestern State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Mustangs faced a 68-48 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Midwestern State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 15 total points.

Lubbock Christian kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 82-53 advantage before Midwestern State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 82-59 with 2:54 to go in the contest. Lubbock Christian responded and outscored the Mustangs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 87-61. Midwestern State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 10 of its 13 total points.
