TYLER, Texas -- Midwestern State snuck past UT Tyler for a 2-1 victory at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
The victory improved the Mustangs record to 7-1-2 overall and 2-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
How it Happened
Midwestern State grabbed a 1-0 lead when Mere Escobar notched his conference-leading 11th goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 66th minute.
Escobar is 3-for-3 on PKs this season.
Escobar has 55 career goals at Midwestern State and is the third all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the program. Only Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson have scored more goals wearing the Maroon & Gold. Alexander netted 58 goals from 1975-1978, and Henderson scored 58 goals from 1987-1990.
The Patriots pulled even on a goal from Salomao Saboia in the 68th minute, assisted by Luan Rangel and Niko Vasileiou.
Liam Kervick scored the game-winning goal for the Mustangs in the 88th minute. Ethan Krchnak assisted Kervick on his first collegiate goal.
