WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 22 Midwestern State cruised to a 4-1 victory against Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon at Stang Park.
The Mustangs improved to 8-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play after the win.
How it Happened
MSU took a 1-0 lead when Mere Escobar notched his 12th goal of the season in the 18th minute. It was his 56th career goal and Escobar is three goals away from moving past Kris Henderson and Alvin Alexander to become the program's all-time goals leader.
The Eagles evened the game on a goal from Igor Caballero in the opening minute of the second half.
However, Midwestern State regained a 2-1 lead on Samuele Muroni's 56th-minute goal, his fourth of the season on an assist from Escobar.
The Mustangs made it a 3-1 lead with a 70th-minute goal from Gabriel Gacovicaj, his first of the season. Jaime Villagomez and James Mitchell assisted the goal.
Midwestern State increased its lead to make it a 4-1 game on Max Gonzales' fourth goal of the season in the 81st minute, assisted by Villagomez. The match ended without another goal scored.
