Stangs invade Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex for LSC showdown with UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas -- Midwestern State looks to improve a 2-1-2 road record as it hits the road to meet UT Tyler on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Mustangs rebounded from a midweek 5-0 loss on the road at St. Edward's last week with a convincing 5-2 victory over Texas A&M International at Stang Park on Saturday night.

Midwestern State improved to 6-1-2 overall and is 1-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

Mere Escobar scored the third hat trick of his career in the win over the Dustdevils. It marked the 11th time he scored two or more goals in his five-year career at MSU.

Escobar has scored 10 goals in nine matches this season and also has four assists. The senior from Austin, Texas, leads the conference in goals and points. Escobar is the sixth-leading goal scorer in the nation among NCAA Division II players. He also has the fifth-most total points with 24.

Escobar has 54 career goals at Midwestern State and is the third all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the program. Only Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson have scored more goals wearing the Maroon & Gold. Alexander netted 58 goals from 1975-1978, and Henderson scored 58 goals from 1987-1990.

Three of Escobar's goals have been game winners, which leads the LSC and is second only to Harry Cooke's four game-winners for Queens (NY) in NCAA Division II soccer.

Liam Pritchard has assisted on three of the goals scored by Escobar and is leading the league with five assists this season, but the Englishman missed the last two matches due to injury.

Senior goalkeeper Jakob Stone was shown a red card near the half-hour mark at St. Edward's and did not play Saturday night against TAMIU.

Danny Robles, a junior from Tyler, Texas, made his third start of the season in goal on Saturday night. Robles improved to 1-0-2 as he made three saves. Robles has a 1.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .605. His goal-against average through four appearances is 1.67.

Midwestern State has won all six meetings with UT Tyler, including a 2-0 victory at Stang Park last season, when Samuele Muroni scored his first goal as a Mustang, and Liam Pritchard netted a goal in the 75th minute.

UT Tyler enters the mid-week match with a 2-3-3 overall record and is 0-0-2 in the LSC after playing back-to-back draws against Dallas Baptist and West Texas A&M. The Patriots are 2-1-1 at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

UT Tyler has been outscored by its opponents this season, 13-11.

Four Patriots have scored two goals apiece this season: Omar Belahna, Danny DeMarias, Julian Smith, and Niko Vasileiou. Belhana, DeMarias and Smith each have an assist and are tied for the team lead with five points each. Oscar Sosa has two assists for the Patriots.

Alan Johnson has been the primary goalkeeper for UT Tyler with a 1-2-3 record. Johnson has made 18 saves in seven appearances, and he has allowed 12 goals. Johnson, who has made six starts, has a 2.05 goals-against average.
