KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Texas A&M-Kingsville's Roger Hagan ran for a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns and the Javelinas shutout Midwestern State in the second half on the way to a 40-13 win Saturday night at Javelina Stadium.
It was the second consecutive loss for the Mustangs, who fell to 2-3 on the season and to 1-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
Texas A&M-Kingsville rolled to its fourth consecutive win to move to 4-1 and is locked in a four-way tie at the top of the league standings with Central Washington, Angelo State, and Western Oregon at 3-0.
Hagan scored a pair of 2-yard rushing touchdowns in the second half as the fifth-year senior recorded his second career 100-yard performance.
Midwestern State jumped out to an early on the strength of two scoring connections from
Andrew Knebel to
Demonte Greene. The first strike came from 33 yards out to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead at the 9:50 mark of the first half.
Knebel then hit Greene for a 51-yard TD to give the Mustangs their final lead of the game at 13-9 with 3:42 remaining in the first half.
Greene finished the game with four receptions for 93 yards, while
Arabia Bradford, Jr. led the MSU receiving corps with five catches for 97 yards.
Knebel, a sophomore from Jarrell, completed 18-of-41 passes for 257 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first collegiate start.
Senior safety
Jermaine Witherspoon led the MSU defense with 10 tackles and forced a fumble, while junior safety
Jayln Thompson was in on three tackles for loss including a quarterback sack.
Midwestern State takes on Sul Ross State Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
