WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 25-ranked Midwestern State looks to remain unbeaten in conference play as the Angelo State Rambelles visit Stang Park on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the first 100 students in attendance receive free Kona Ice.
The Mustangs enter Saturday's match with a 6-1-1 record and have opened conference play with a 2-0-1 mark following a 2-2 draw at Texas Woman's in a midweek match at Pioneer Soccer Field.
Cassidy Savoy scored the equalizer in the 65th minute, and
Allison Dellis made seven saves for the Mustangs on Wednesday night.
Lillia Besedin scored the first goal for MSU in the 59th minute.
Midwestern State has outscored the opposition this season, 18-8, led by Savoy and
Madison Brinkley, who have each scored five goals for the Mustangs.
Nyxalee Munoz has scored three goals and is tied with Savoy for the team lead in game-winning goals with two.
Allessandra Romano leads the Mustangs with six assists. Savoy and
Lexi Beck each have two assists.
Dellis has played every minute of all eight matches as the MSU goalkeeper. The sophomore from Denton, Texas, with a 6-1-1 record has a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .857 with one shutout this season.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Angelo State, 18-16-8, but the Rambelles won the last meeting, 1-0, as Brianna Rodriguez scored with 28 seconds remaining at ASU Soccer Field last year.
The Mustangs are 11-8-1 when hosting Angelo State and won the last encounter at Stang Park, 2-0, as
Lexi Beck and
Isabella Cruz scored goals in the victory. The two sides met three days later in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament in San Angelo, and Midwestern State advanced on PKs after a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes.
Angelo State is 4-1-2 overall this season and has opened conference play with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Texas Woman's and St. Edward's.
Senior goalkeeper Amber Lockwood is 4-1-2 with six shutouts this season. The native of San Antonio has a goals-against average of 0.43, which is second-best in the conference. Lockwood also has the second-highest save percentage in the conference at .897.
Angelo State is outscoring opponents, 10-3, and all three goals were conceded in a 3-2 loss at Central Oklahoma on Sept. 12. The Rambelles have not allowed a goal in 456 minutes.
Christina Clark and Graycen Rasmussen have each scored twice this season for the Rambelles, and Maxey Madison has a goal and two assists. Five other players have scored for Angelo State this season.
Shaelyn Ward and Sanai Stewart scored for the Rambelles in their 2-0 win over St. Edward's on Wednesday in San Angelo. Angelo State had a season-high 10 shots on goal in the win over the Hilltoppers.
Midwestern State travels to Eastern New Mexico for a match on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. (CDT).
