Mustangs earn sweep over St. Mary's

WICHITA FALLS, Texas --The Midwestern State volleyball team needed only three sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-23) to beat the St. Mary's (Texas) Saturday afternoon at DL Ligon Coliseum.

The victory moved the Mustangs' record to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in LSC play.

The Mustangs were led by a double-double from Riley Rabedeaux, who registered 16 kills and 10 digs on the day. Demi Stauffenberg also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Amy Dewalt chipped in for with 11 digs to go with three blocks from Gabrielle Oos.

SET 2 | Midwestern State carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-19 victory in set two. The Mustangs took control of the set lead early on at 6-5 and never trailed. Midwestern State led by as many as nine points at 19-10 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills in the process. Midwestern State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four St. Mary's attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Midwestern State then finished off the match with a victory in set number three. The Mustangs survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way. The Midwestern State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
