Eagles land at Stang Park for critical clash with Stang Gang

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 22-ranked Midwestern looks to surpass Oklahoma Christian in the Lone Star Conference standings as the two sides clash at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon. The MSU seniors will be recognized in a pregame ceremony. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Eagles are atop the table in the LSC with a 2-0-1 conference record, which gives them seven points from three matches. OC is 5-2-3 overall this season.

The Mustangs are 7-1-2 overall this season and have accumulated six points in the conference standings with a 2-1-0 record.

Midwestern State is coming off a 2-1 victory at UT Tyler in its midweek match at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

Liam Kervick's first collegiate goal was a game-winning tally for the Mustangs in the 88th minute at Tyler. Ethan Krchnak assisted Kervick and has assists in each of his last two games.
Mere Escobar scored the first goal of the match from the penalty spot and improved to 3-for-3 on PKs this season. Escobar notched his conference-leading 11th goal of the season.

Escobar has 55 career goals at Midwestern State and is the third all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the program. Only Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson have scored more goals wearing the Maroon & Gold. Alexander netted 58 goals from 1975-1978, and Henderson scored 58 goals from 1987-1990.

Liam Pritchard has assisted on three of the goals scored by Escobar and is leading the league with five assists this season. Escobar also has two assists and is leading the LSC with 26 points, which is third-most among NCAA Division II players.

Danny Robles, a junior from Tyler, Texas, made his fourth start of the season in goal on Wednesday. Robles improved to 2-0-2 as he made three saves. Robles has a 1.72 goals-against average and a save percentage of .600. His goals-against average through five appearances is 1.72.

Midwestern State has a plus-8 goal differential, outscoring its opponents, 24-16, this season. The Mustangs are outshooting the opposition, 168-106.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Oklahoma Christian, 23-2-1, and has won the last four meetings, outscoring the Eagles, 9-1, in that span.

MSU won the regular season meeting at Stang Park last season, 3-0, as Escobar and Josh Milla scored goals six minutes apart in the second half.

In the conference tournament semifinals at Stang Park last November, MSU outshot the Eagles, 15-4, and Escobar provided the game winner when he converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

Oklahoma Christian is unbeaten in its last four matches following a 1-1 draw with West Texas A&M in its midweek match at Eagle Soccer Field. Ethan Nakolo scored his fourth goal of the season in the 84th minute after the Eagles conceded a goal to the Buffaloes in the 54th minute.

Igor Caballero leads OC with six goals and 14 points this season, while Nokolo has three assists to go with his four goals and is second on the team with 11 points.

Luis Alvis, Joep Claassen and Isaias Silva have each scored twice and added an assist for the Eagles, who have a plus-8 goal differential, outscoring their opponents, 17-9.

Pepe Hinterschuster is 5-2-3 in 10 matches as the OC goalkeeper this season. The 6-2 freshman from Germany has four clean sheets with a 0.81 goals-against average and a save percentage of .818.

Midwestern State returns to Stang Park on Wednesday night to face Dallas Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
