TOPEKA, Kansas -- Midwestern State lost two matches at the Washburn Volleyball Invitational on Friday. Northwest Missouri State defeated the Mustangs in the nightcap, 3-0, after the host swept the Mustangs in a morning duel.
Northwest Missouri State 3, Midwestern State 0
Jaiden Wright hit .467 with eight kills on 15 swings, but Northwest Missouri State outhit the Mustangs in a 3-0 victory at Lee Arena on Friday night.
The Bearcats were coming off a four-set victory over No. 25 Harding earlier in the day and hit .227 against Midwestern State.
Olivia Dir punctuated a six-point run with her fourth kill early in the first set as Northwest Missouri State took an 8-2 lead. The Bearcats hit .314 in the opening set and held Midwestern State to a .111 hitting percentage in a 25-17 victory.
The second set featured six ties and two lead changes as the Mustangs held an 11-8 lead. Natalie Laiolo delivered one of five service aces for Northwest Missouri State to overtake MSU, 19-18. Midwestern State fought off a set point with a kill from Riley Rabedeaux, but Lauren Casey ended the set for the Bearcats with an assist from Laiolo to win the set, 25-23.
Kirsten Ford gave Northwest Missouri State a 15-9 lead in the third set with an ace, but the Mustangs won eight of 10 points to tie the set, 17-17. Following a timeout Dir hit two aces and added a kill to put the Bearcats ahead, 20-17. Northwest Missouri State won the final three points to clinch the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.
Dir finished with 14 kills and hit .281 for the Bearcats. Rabadeaux had nine kills for the Mustangs and accounted for 9.5 points in the loss. Taygon Jones of MSU led all players with 21 digs, and Alayna Guerrero had 29 of 34 assists for the Mustangs.

Washburn 3, Midwestern State 0
Riley Rabedeaux led the Mustangs with 11 kills and hit .240, but Washburn swept Midwestern State on Friday morning, 3-0.
After Midwestern State took an early 4-2 lead in the opening set, the Ichabods reeled off 10 straight points and never looked back. Washburn served seven aces en route to a 25-14 victory in the first set.
Bella Limback and Jalyn Stevenson each had six aces in the match for Washburn, which finished with 14 for the match.
Washburn had four blocks and hit .286 in a 25-13 second set victory.
The Ichabods jumped out to an 11-3 lead and held MSU to .000 hitting in the third set on their way to a 25-15 triumph.
Stevenson hit .385 and accounted for 19.5 points with 13 kills to lead Washburn, which hit .262 for the match. Midwestern State hit .075.
Alayna Guerrero finished with 22 assists for the Mustangs, and Taygon Jones had 15 digs.
Midwestern State returns to Lee Arena at 10 a.m. on Saturday to face Missouri Western and will close out its stay in Topeka with a 2 p.m. match against William Jewell.
