Hot -swinging Mustangs blast Western Colorado in home tournament finale

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State fired on all cylinders in a 25-10, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of Western Colorado Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs rallied to a split of four matches of the Midwestern State Invitational and used an impressive offensive effort to do it.

Junior Riley Rabedeaux continued to sparkle for the Mustangs. The junior transfer needed just 23 swings to slam down a match-high 13 kills while committing just one error to post a .522 hitting percentage.

Her efforts helped the Mustangs post the second most efficient hitting day for the Mustangs since Stephanie Radecki took over the program prior to the start of last season.

MSU used a blistering start to finish the match with a .309 team hitting percentage. The Mustangs were nearly perfect in the opening set, putting down 15 kills to just one error as a team for a .560 hitting percentage.

That allowed the Mustangs to set the tone for a 25-10 in the opening the opening set, then hit a better than respectable .184 and .258 in the final two sets to cruise to victory.

Sophomore Robyn White enjoyed her best collegiate hitting day by notching nine kills with just three errors to hit .364, while freshman middle hitter Isabella Dickens delivered another stellar performance with a matching nine kills while hitting an even better .389.

Fellow frosh Jaiden Wright clubbed six kills on 11 attempts to finish with a .364 hitting percentage.

Freshman setter Alayna Guerrero fueled the numbers by finishing with a season-high 33 assists to help MSU raise its season hitting percentage to .195.

Wright also led the Mustangs at the net with three total blocks, while sophomore Taygon Jones and freshman Jenna Redding paced back row efforts with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Western Colorado's Maggie Olson notched 12 kills to lead the Mountaineers, who managed to hit .167 as a team.

The Mustangs closed the Midwestern State Invitational with a 2-2 mark, also claiming a four-set win over West Alabama while suffering setbacks to Southwestern Oklahoma State and Central Oklahoma.

MSU takes on Washburn (Kan.), Northwest Missouri State, Missouri Western, and William Jewell (Mo.) in the Washburn Classic Friday and Saturday in Topeka.
