WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma -- Midwestern State scored a season-high three goals to smash Southwestern Oklahoma State, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
It was the third-straight win for the Mustangs, who improved to 3-1-2.
Junior
Lexi Beck scored a goal and added an assist, while
Isabella Cruz and
Averi Culver added their first goals of the season.
The Mustangs dominated by possessing the ball for 61 percent of the game, resulting in a 24-7 shot advantage. MSU placed 11 of those shots on frame.
Junior
Isabella Cruz headed in the opening goal on a serve to the near post on corner kick from Beck in the 38th minute.
Culver scored her first collegiate goal in the 60th minute after
Janae Sanchez worked the ball down the end line before slotting pass to the near the top of the penalty area.
Culver, a freshman from Lewisville, blasted a shot to the upper-right corner of the net to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
Beck tacked on a season-high third goal for the Mustangs by following
Emma Short's shot off of the crossbar in the 77th minute with a tap-in from the goal area.
Beck, who leads MSU with four goals, has scored a goal in each of her last three matches and in four of the last five.
Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference play by hosting unbeaten Texas Woman's University Wednesday night at Stang Park. Kickoff is slate for 7 p.m.
