PORTALES, N.M. -- Alayna Guerrero led a strong defensive team effort to help Midwestern State to a 27-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19 win over St. Edward's Saturday afternoon in the LSC Preview at Greyhound Arena.
Guerrero delivered a solid-around performance putting 24 assists, four kills, and a solo block with a season-high 26 digs.
The freshman from Red Oak was one of four players with at least 20 digs as the Mustangs limited the Hilltoppers to their lowest team hitting percentage of the weekend at .083.
The win snaps a six-match slide for the Mustangs, while halting SEU's winning streak at three.
Midwestern State came out swinging to take the opening two sets, combining for a 33 kills and a .162 hitting percentage to bolt out to a 2-0 lead.
Senior
Lauryn Bourne led the Mustangs with 11 kills on 36 swings with three errors for a .22 hitting percentage, while freshman
Isabella Dickens matched a season-high with 10 kills of her own.
Junior
Riley Rabedeaux wrapped up her eighth double-figure kill performance of the season with 10.
But St. Edward's extended the match to a fourth set as Lourdes Gomez put down four of her team-high 11 kills to lift the Hilltoppers to a 25-18 win in the third set.
Midwestern State (3-8) used a 9-0 run with
Robyn White at the service line to take control in the final set.
White, a sophomore from Spokane Valley, Washington, finished with a career-high 23 digs, while Bourne and sophomore
Taygon Jones pitched in 21 and 20 digs, respectively.
Freshman
Jaiden Wright recorded four total blocks to lead the Mustangs' effort at the net.
Midwestern State closes the LSC Preview against Eastern New Mexico later in the afternoon. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
St. Edward's fell to 4-8.
