WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Madisen Mann hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run third inning, and
Zoe Isom pitched a complete game as Midwestern State won the rubber game of a three-game series, defeating Eastern New Mexico, 3-2, at Mustangs Park on Friday afternoon.
Brooks Leger held Midwestern State scoreless through the first two innings, but
Kayla Bryant drew a lead-off walk in the third inning.
Morgan Brown doubled to right field, and the Mustangs had runners at second and third with nobody out.
Sydney Shimkus reached on a fielding error that allowed Bryant to score the first run of the game.
Shimkus was caught stealing, and Leger struck out
Jessika Roberts before Mann launched her third home run of the season over the left field fence. A day earlier, Mann drove home the winning run in the 11th inning with a base hit for the Mustangs.
Leger was chased from the circle after three innings, allowing three runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Eastern New Mexico answered with two runs in the fourth inning. Valeria Contreras singled, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and Leger moved her to third base with single up the middle. Contreras scored on a double steal. Katelyn Cifuentes drove home Leger with a single to left field.
Over the next three innings, Isom allowed just two hits and walked one batter. The sophomore from Midlothian, Texas, scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out a season-high six batters. Isom improved to 3-5 for the season.
Isom has won her last three starts at Mustangs Park, and all three outings have been complete games.
Midwestern State has won five of its last eight games overall, and the Mustangs have won their last two series at home.
The Mustangs are 8-31 for the season with a 7-23 record in the Lone Star Conference. MSU is 7-11 at home this year.
The Greyhounds fall to 21-24 overall, and they are 13-20 in conference games this season. ENMU has lost five of its last six games and is 7-11 on the road.
Midwestern State plays a three-game series at Kingsville, including a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch at Hubert Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
