WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State earned its 10th consecutive postseason berth as announced on the NCAA Division II Selection Show Monday night on NCAA.com.
The No. 3-seeded Mustangs, who are making their 20th overall appearance, visit No. 2-seed UT Tyler Friday morning at Summers Tennis Center in the South Central Regional. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The winner advances to the Round of 16 played at the NCAA Division II Championship site at the USTA National Campus (Collegiate Center) from May 11-16 in Orlando, Fla.
UT Tyler defeated Midwestern State in a dual match, 4-3, at Tyler on April 11.
The Patriots are led by Gonzalo Fernandez, who is ranked No. 7 in the nation among Division II singles players, and Joaquin Bianchi, who is ranked No. 9.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with UT Tyler, 6-4, and the two programs meet in the postseason for the first time.
Midwestern State finished third in the LSC with a 6-2 record and was 14-10 overall. Cameron eliminated the Mustangs from the conference tournament in the semifinals and went on to defeat UT Tyler in the final, 4-3.
UT Tyler finished the regular season with an 8-0 record in the LSC and defeated Western New Mexico and Arkansas-Fort Smith in the LSC Men's Tennis Championship, 4-0, on its way to the final. The Patriots are 19-2 overall.
