Midwestern State, Western New Mexico set for "Battle of the Mustangs"

SILVER CITY, New Mexico -- Midwestern State hits the road for the final time this season, taking on Western New Mexico Friday and Saturday in a three-game Lone Star Conference series at WNMU's Mustang Softball Field.

The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m., then concludes with a single game on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. All times are Central.

The games are set to broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

All video streams on the LSC Digital Network are also available on Over-The-Top (OTT) apps on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku by searching "LSC Digital Network."

>>> St. Mary's threw three consecutive shutouts to sweep Midwestern State last weekend at Mustangs Park, winning 5-0, 5-0, and 2-0.
>>> MSU was limited to three hits in each game with Catalina Cavazos going the distances in the first and third games, while Madeline Bloom blanked the Mustangs in the second game.
>>> Freshman Allie Monroe (3-for-9) and sophomore Sydney Shimkus (3-for-10) accounted for three of MSU's nine hits.

>>> The Mustangs have endured shutouts in each of their last five games and have not scoring in 39 innings. MSU last in the first inning of Game 1 against Texas A&M-Kingsviille on April 11 when Payton Griffin drilled a double to the left-field gap to score Allie Monroe.
>>> Sophomore Sydney Shimkus is batting .281 with two doubles, a homer and nine RBIs to lead the Mustangs. She had a hit in each game against St. Mary's to carry a three-game hitting streak into this weekend's series.
>>> Freshman Allie Monroe is second on the team with a .264 batting average with eight doubles, a triple, and two homers. She was 3-for-9 with a double in last week's series against St. Mary's.
>>> Junior pitcher Kennedy Cameron is 13th in the Lone Star Conference and 146th in NCAA Division II, averaging 6.3 strikeouts per seven innings.

>>> Freshman Kamerynn Cordova is WNMU's top option in the circle posting a 4-18 record with a 6.21 ERA. She has started a team-high 22 games and went the distance five times.
