Midwestern State hopes to derail St. Mary’s

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State welcomes St. Mary's to Mustangs Park for a three-game Lone Star Conference series Saturday and Sunday.

The Mustangs and Rattlers play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. The series concludes Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.

The games are set to broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network at MSUMustangs.com/streaming.

All video streams on the LSC Digital Network are also available on Over-The-Top (OTT) apps on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku by searching "LSC Digital Network."

LAST TIME OUT | On a night that saw Midwestern State shut out Texas A&M-Kingsville for six innings, Carissa De Los Santos hurled a no-hitter for the Javelinas, who scored the winning run in the seventh inning and defeated Midwestern State, 1-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Hubert Field.

Texas A&M-Kingsville won the opener, 3-1, as Annisa Lechner drove in a run and scored for the Javelinas.

The Mustangs were no-hit for the second time this season and for the fifth time in the history of the program. De Los Santos faced one batter over the minimum. Her only blemish was hitting Payton Griffin with a pitch to lead off the fifth inning. The sophomore from Kingsville only recorded two strike outs — getting 12 outs through the air and seven on the ground — en route to the eighth no-hitter in the history of the program.

Midwestern State took a 1-0 lead in the opening game of the doubleheader as Payton Griffin drove home Allie Monroe with a double to left-center field in the first inning. Monroe finished the game with two hits for the Mustangs. Christine Billmeier threw her second complete game of the season for the Mustangs, allowing two earned runs with three walks and one strikeout. Billmeier's record fell to 1-1.

Freshman Andrea Martinez pitched a shutout in her first collegiate start and Matisen Onofrei belted a grand slam to help Texas A&M-Kingsville complete a series sweep of Midwestern State, 13-0 in five innings, Wednesday afternoon at Hubert Field. The Javelinas scored six runs in the first and three in the second inning before Onofrei blasted a grand slam to put away the game in the third. Kayla Bryant had a two-out single in the second inning, while Chloe Bryant led off the fifth inning with a single down the right-field line to account for Midwestern State's offensive production. Sophomore Zoe Isom (3-6) took the loss in the circle allowing five runs on two walks and a hit in 1/3 innings.
