Ouachita Baptist roars past Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Germano Setti won his fifth straight singles match for Midwestern State, defeating Ramon Strassmann of Ouachita Baptist in the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-1, but it wasn't enough for the Mustangs to overcome the Tigers. Ouachita Baptist rebounded from a loss to Cameron on Friday to beat the Mustangs on Saturday morning at MSU Tennis Center, 4-1.

The Mustangs had a three-dual winning streak snapped. Ouachita Baptist won the doubles point as Phil Exner and Alex Blanchar defeated Germano Setti and Marcal Miret Avante at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Fernando Docters and Aaron Osmond upended Juan David Duque and Luis Diaz Argente at No. 2 doubles, 6-4.

Blanchar scored a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Diaz Argente at No. 1 singles. Exner handled Charles Heffernan in the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Docters handed Miret Avante a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. Miret Avante beat Docters last year in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, pulling out a 10-6 victory in a third-set tiebreak for the Mustangs only point in a 6-1 loss.

Ouachita Baptist leads the all-time series 12-3 and is 2-3 when facing the Mustangs at MSU Tennis Center. The Tigers improve to 4-3 on the season after losing back-to-back duals to LSC opponents — UT Tyler and Cameron.

Midwestern State is 7-4 with a 4-2 record at home this season.

The Mustangs are California bound. MSU begins a four-match swing at Azusa Pacific on March 14 at 3 p.m. MSU will also face Hawaii-Hilo and Fresno Pacific in Azusa, Calif. The trip winds down in La Miranda, Calif., where the Mustangs face Biola for the first time in program history.
