AZUSA, Calif. -- Skylar Minns remains undefeated in singles and helped Midwestern State defeat Fresno Pacific, 4-3, at Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon. The Mustangs are 9-3 overall this season, and the Sunbirds fell to 3-5.
Minns improved to 7-0 in singles matches this season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Audrey Ouellet of the Sunbirds.
Minns victory gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the dual after they captured the doubles point to begin the day.
Amelia Lawson and
Sydney Williams improved to 5-4 in doubles with a 6-2 triumph over Lea Falentin and Ouellet at No. 1 doubles.
Alice Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani posted their second consecutive win on the road trip with a 6-3 victory over Nayuma Subba and Elise Leik in the No. 2 doubles match. Di Matteo and Furutani improve to 7-4 for the season.
Lawson suffered a 6-0, 7-6 (7) loss to Falentin in the No. 1 singles match. Lawson is now 6-6 in singles this season.
Yip Hannah made her first appearance in the No. 3 position and defeated Sanne Brull, 7-6 (2), 6-2 to give MSU a 3-1 lead in the dual.
Elise Leik of Fresno Pacific tripped up Williams in the No. 5 singles match, 6-4, 6-0, and the Sunbirds drew within one point of the Mustangs.
Micaela McSpadden was dominant in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Margarita Munoz and clinched the dual for Midwestern State, which is 7-2 in the No. 6 position this season. McSpadden has won three straight matches and improved to 3-2 for the season.
Midwestern State wraps up its four-dual excursion to California against Biola at the Biola Tennis Center on Friday at 2 p.m.
