LA MIRADA Calif. -- Midwestern State returned to its winning ways at the Biola Tennis Center on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Hawaii-Hilo after a six-dual winning streak was snapped with a 4-0 loss to Azusa Pacific on Monday.
Emilija Visic and
Skylar Minns improved to 4-0 in doubles. The duo prevailed in the No. 3 position with a 6-4 triumph over McKenna Mountain and Lehua Jordan to clinch the doubles point.
Alice Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani cruised past Nanami Okamoto and Julia Barden of Hawaii-Hilo, 6-2, in the No. 2 doubles match.
Hikari Osaki evened the dual for the Vulcans with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Visic in the No. 4 singles match.
Amelia Lawson reclaimed the lead for MSU with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Akari Ichikawa at No. 1 singles.
Di Matteo posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nanami Okamoto to win the point at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs.
After dropping the first set, 6-2,
Hannah Yip came storming back to even the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-3 triumph in the second set over Mountain. But the third set belonged to the Hawaii-Hilo junior, 6-0, and the Vulcans were within a point.
Sydney Williams secured the victory for MSU with a 6-2, 6-2 pasting of Casydee De Mattos in the No. 6 position.
Midwestern State improved its record to 8-3, while Hawaii-Hilo fell to 4-5.
The Mustangs return to Azusa, California, for a dual with Fresno Pacific on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. central time.
