LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Midwestern State fell to 0-2 on its Spring Break trip to California as Hawaii-Hilo handed the No. 15-ranked Mustangs a 4-1 loss at Biola Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Marcal Miret Avante earned the only point for the Mustangs, coasting to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Zen Yoshida of Hawaii-Hilo.
The Vulcans won the doubles point as Jacob Pearce and Filippo Di Perna edged
Luis Diaz Argente and
Juan David Duque in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-4.
Luca Matheiowetz and Rysosuke Sowa defeated the MSU pairing of
Charles Heffernan and Killian Gillou at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
Matheiowetz and Heffernan met again in No. 2 singles, and once again the Hawaii-Hilo junior triumphed, 6-3, 6-4.
Germano Setti squared off with Joshua Liu in the No.4 singles match, and Liu prevailed, 7-5, 6-3.
Diaz Argente and Di Perna played the only three-set match of the day, and Di Perna rallied to clinch the victory for the Vulcans, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles match.
Midwestern State falls to 7-6 on the season, and Hawaii-Hilo improves to 2-3.
The Mustangs return to Azusa, California, for a dual with Fresno Pacific on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. central time.
